Recently, I was watching the Oscar’s movie and it was interesting to see how Instagram was used. Who owns Instagram? The movie was about the fight between the California governor and the California attorney general. In the end the California gov made a deal with the Instagram founder. And they were able to team up in order to defeat the AG. Not long after that, the social media platforms got into a legal battle. It is what led to Instagram and Facebook being sued by the state of California.
During that time, Instagram was sued by a company called Simpang Technologies. It is the same company that created Simpang, a face recognition software that uses facial recognition to help with identification. This type of software is popular on the social media platforms. Because everyone is constantly posting pictures and videos, and the fact that everyone uses the camera to take photos. Who owns Instagram? This means that the data from all of those pictures is valuable to the companies who own the social media platforms. After being sued, the social media platforms released an update to their policies. It is essentially was to never allow users to sell or share the information belonging to others without the express permission of the user.
Instagram Policies
Since the policy change, the lawsuits and fights between the two companies have faded away. While it doesn’t mean that the users are now free and clear, it does mean that there are now rules that every user must follow in order to stay on the safe side of the social media platforms. In the end, it is up to the users to make sure that the social media platforms are following the law. Because if they don’t, then users could find themselves in trouble down the line.
